Our city is designed to maximise the quality of life.

Built on a blueprint that connects people with community and nature, Canberra provides you the opportunity to create a unique work/life balance, wherever you choose to live.

The architects who designed Canberra, Walter and Marion Burley Griffin, had a master plan to create a series of ‘satellite cities’ separated by nature reserves and connected with major roads. Today their vision lives on, with Canberra divided into seven distinct regions of residential suburbs, each serviced by a central business district.

The resulting benefits are that commuting times are short. Employment hubs are virtually on your doorstep and recreational facilities are within walking distance, regardless of where you live.

Below you will find information on each district and the suburbs contained within them. You can also view this information through our 'Explore Canberra' map.

Its town centre is on the shores of Lake Ginninderra and is home to a recently re-developed shopping centre, dining precinct, Commonwealth Departments, the University of Canberra, Calvary Hospital, the Australian Institute of Sport and Canberra Stadium.

The smallest of the seven districts, Weston Creek consists of eight residential suburbs, each with its own shopping centre. The area is also serviced by a major shopping and business centre called Cooleman Court and several arterial roads efficiently connect it to Woden, Civic, Tuggeranong and Belconnen.

Surrounded by natural bushland, Weston Creek is a peaceful community and has a slightly older population than the rest of Canberra, with a number of retirement homes adding to the mix of apartments and homes in the area.

Surrounded by the picturesque Brindabella Mountain range, the valley of Tuggeranong is home to a major town centre on the shores of Lake Tuggeranong. The town centre currently has a large shopping complex, cinema, Government Departments, local businesses and a vibrant dining precinct that will be greatly enhanced thanks to a new lakeside development, Southquay.
